I like to keep a book in my car for those times I find myself early for things (which is often – I don’t do late!). I can sit in the peace and quiet and read a few pages. At the moment, I’m reading ‘The Rules of Life‘ by Richard Templar. He describes it as “a personal code for living a better, happier, more successful kind of life,” and I’m feeling pretty inspired!
One of my favourite ‘rules’ so far (and I haven’t read much of it yet!) is rule 17 – ‘Change what you can change, let go of the rest‘.
He’s absolutely right. Why waste time trying to change the unchangeable while life passes you by? It’s much better to dedicate that precious time trying to change the stuff you can – no matter how small – or big – that may be. If we can influence big things, or important people, then fab! But, if the only person you can influence is yourself, then at least you won’t waste time trying to make someone else listen. If you can change yourself, you’re guaranteed a result!

What changes can you make in your life, and what can you let go?

This week it’s Deb’s turn to host the Monday Motivation Linky, so pop over to Chaos in Kent to read her post and join in. Or, if you like, you can add your link here (or just read the posts!).

Kelly is a mother of two – her son H and daughter Tink. H is home educated, Tink is autistic. Kelly is a self-employed Virtual Assistant… Life is busy!

I love this rule – we all spend time worrying about things we cannot change, just think what we could achieve if we used that time differently?
Definitely a rule to live your life by, and I’m hoping one day I’ll get there with this (I find it tricky to let anything go though, so even the things I can’t change I’d want to and have a stab at!)
Great idea – I’m all for avoiding wasting time in any shape or form so this definitely makes sense to me! 🙂 #TheMMlinky
Ah such a good quote! Why bother stressing about things you can’t change? Much better to check your attitude towards it and figure out what you *can* do. 🙂
I couldn’t figure out where to get the linky badge code from lovely… can you help?
Well spotted! I’ve added it now… x
This is very much the theme of my post today x

This is a good set of priorities.
